No-exam life insurance
Who qualifies for an expedited underwriting process, the way it functions, and what occurs if you don't qualify.
Many carriers have introduced accelerated underwriting: within specified age bands and coverage limits, they render decisions based on the application answers, prescription records, driving history and similar data rather than ordering a medical exam. Decisions on some applications return within hours. Each quote shown here indicates whether an exam is required, may be required, or is not required for that product.
What it changes
Skipping the exam does not mean skipping underwriting review. Your answers get verified, and if a policy is issued based on untrue information, the carrier can contest it in the first two years. If your answers raise questions in the carrier's records, they may ask for an exam or lab work; you decide then whether to move forward.
Who tends to qualify
Usually those younger than about 60, applying for amounts below the carrier's limit for accelerated review, with no serious medical history and no tobacco use in the past year or longer. Some carriers will substitute recent blood work from your doctor in place of an exam.
Should you need an exam, it will ordinarily be a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedic at your residence or workplace in the Huntington Beach region, at no charge to you. When results show good health, they may actually improve your rate class, so an exam is not necessarily unfavorable.
